President Nicuşor Dan announced that a drone was shot down in Romanian airspace. The flying device was hit above Buzău County.
“We had a drone in the airspace, it was shot down a few minutes ago, around 11:00, by a Romanian pilot from an F-16. It’s important to underline that the area was uninhabited, that’s also the reason why he could shoot from above downwards. Now there are teams from the institutions investigating to come up with all the details about the incident,” said the leader from Cotroceni.
According to the Ministry of Defense, the drone fell in an uninhabited area of Buzău, writes Agerpres. During the mission, about 15 calls were received at the emergency number 112, after a Ro-Alert message was sent to the locals.
Military officials assert that the aircraft was shot down an hour after detection. The drone was brought down with a missile.
“An F-16 aircraft of the Romanian Air Forces from the 86th Aerial Base in Fetesti, on duty on Friday, July 24, monitoring and tracking a drone that entered the national airspace, engaged the aerial target with a missile and shot it down over an uninhabited area, near the town of Padina, Buzau county. The radar surveillance system of the Ministry of National Defense detected on Friday, July 24, at 9:39, an aerial target at a distance of approximately 20 km East of Sulina, which entered the national airspace, on the Sulina-Braila-Fetesti-Buzau trajectory,” the military specified.
