The head of the legal medicine organization in Iran, Abas Masjedi Arani, announced on Thursday that the death toll in the war that began on February 28, following the attacks of the USA and Israel, exceeds 3000.
Approximately 40% of the deceased could not initially be identified. Tehran announces that work is still ongoing to establish their identity.
In the last month, Iran has not provided updated data on the death toll, reports Agerpres. The latest official figures were published on March 5, when the death toll reached 1230.
Concurrently, the non-governmental organization HRANA, based in the United States, estimates the number of deaths at 3636, of which 1701 deceased are civilians.
Among the dead are numerous high-ranking officials, including Iran’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, Ali Larijani – the secretary of the National Security Council, and the commander-in-chief of the Revolutionary Guards – General Mohammad Pakpur.
Iran and the USA have agreed upon a two-week armistice, a period in which they must negotiate the end of the war.
