British Prime Minister Andy Burnham stated on Wednesday that there are “strong indications” of Iran’s involvement in the incident that took place on Sunday near an airbase in southwest England, used by the American military in its war against Tehran, reports AFP.
“There are clear indications that Iran may have played a role in the events that took place this weekend at the Royal Air Force (RAF) base in Fairford,” the Labour leader stated in an interview given to the BBC.
Iran “categorically” denied any connection with this case on Monday.
The British police intervened at dawn on Sunday near the base at Fairford, following an emergency services call reporting “three suspicious vehicles”.
Five men, British citizens aged between 23 and 25 years, were arrested, initially suspected of “violating the law on explosives”, as well as “preparing a terrorist act”, before being released on bail on Monday.
