The commander of the “Anna de Kiev” brigade, an elite unit partially formed in France and already affected by scandals, was arrested along with several members of his unit, suspected in a case of double homicide in Ukraine, announced on Monday the Ukrainian president, according to AFP.
“Ten people have been arrested so far. Unfortunately, among them are members of the 155th Brigade, as well as its former commander,” stated Volodimir Zelenski on the X network, speaking about a “terrifying tragedy” for which all those involved “will be held fully accountable.”
Stanislav Lucianov, who took command of the 155th Brigade “Anna de Kiev” in February 2026, according to the Ukrainian publication Hromadske, is suspected, among other things, of murder and organizing a crime, offenses for which he risks life imprisonment, indicated the police, without specifying his exact role in the events that occurred.
Named in honor of a princess from Kiev who became queen of France in the Middle Ages, this unit established in 2024 was intended to be a high-performance combat force of the Ukrainian army and was presented by Presidents Emmanuel Macron and Volodimir Zelenski as a symbol of military cooperation between Kiev and Paris.
However, since its deployment on the front, controversies have multiplied, concerning the lack of equipment, mass abandonment of posts by soldiers, and suspicions of corruption.
The Separate Mechanized Brigade 155 counts 4,500 soldiers, of which about half were trained in France.
This scandal is taking place at a time when the Ukrainian president is in Paris for a summit of the Coalition of Will (which brings together the countries that support Ukraine), convened by the French president.
The case involving Stanislav Lucianov pertains to the disappearance, a few weeks ago, of two brothers from the Poltava region (center of the country), following a “quarrel” with a woman living nearby, over the issue of disturbing noise, according to the Ukrainian police.
