The President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, has appointed Eugen Tomac, his honorary advisor for relations with Romanians everywhere, as Prime Minister. The leader from Cotroceni announced the candidacy on Thursday, June 4.

Eugen Tomac, aged 44 and a historian by profession, reports newsmaker.md. He was born in the Odessa region of Ukraine and is married to a citizen of the Republic of Moldova. Over time, he has held several positions in public administration. He worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in the Presidential Administration, where he was responsible for relations with Romanians everywhere and was an advisor to Traian Băsescu.

He was elected as a deputy in the Romanian Parliament in 2012 and re-elected in 2016. He served his term until June 2019, when he resigned following his election to the European Parliament.

Since 2019, he has been a Member of the European Parliament for the People’s Movement Party (PMP). In the current legislative term of the European Parliament, he is part of the Renew Europe group.

Eugen Tomac has been the president of PMP since 2022. The party was established in 2014 and consolidated around the former president Traian Băsescu, who joined later.

In October 2025, Nicușor Dan appointed Eugen Tomac as honorary advisor for relations with Romanians everywhere.

Eugen Tomac is a supporter of the Republic of Moldova’s accession to the EU and of the unification of the Republic of Moldova with Romania.
