Alexandr Sokolov, the editor of the Russian publication Novaia Gazeta, known for its journalistic investigations, has been searched. Law enforcement escorted him to the Investigation Committee on Thursday.
The criminal proceedings take place on the sidelines of a case targeting personal data access. It’s about Oleg Roldughin, accused of illegally accessing personal data, committed in a group.
Roldughin’s case is in the final stage of the investigation, and the journalist is waiting for the charges to be brought forward.
Sokolov did not communicate details about the hearings, as he signed the documents obliging him not to disclose the information, writes Novaia Gazeta.
According to the publication, a meeting was supposed to take place on the morning of October 15th. The editor had disappeared and his phones were disconnected. Shortly after, his colleagues found out about the searches, and a lawyer went to the Investigation Committee to defend his interests.
