The European Union will begin the contracting, bidding, and procurement procedures for the medium-range air defense system intended for the Republic of Moldova in the coming weeks. The clarification was made by representatives of the European Commission, for TVR Moldova.

Brussels has confirmed that implementation has already begun, but does not yet anticipate a deadline for the delivery of the system.

“At what stage are we? The implementation of this assistance measure has already begun. We expect the next steps – contracting, bidding, and procurement – to begin in the coming weeks.”

In the meantime, short-range air defense equipment, funded through the EPF assistance measures from 2024 and 2025, are already in the process of being acquired. And the aerial surveillance equipment, funded through the assistance from 2023, has already been delivered and contributes to the Republic of Moldova’s ability to monitor the airspace,” stated the European Commission spokesperson, Christian Wigand.

Recently, the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Moldova, Anatolie Nosatîi, stated that an integrated system, capable of detecting and destroying aerial targets, might only reach the Republic of Moldova in about three years, however, the timeline is not certain.

The European Commission has not confirmed the said deadline, nor has it provided estimates in this regard.
