The Transnistrian issue will not constitute an obstacle for the European future of the Republic of Moldova, and the European Union will demand the withdrawal of Russian troops from Transnistria if it negotiates peace in Ukraine with the Russian Federation. The statements were made by the EU’s High Representative for Neighbourhood Policy, Kaja Kallas, during her visit to Chisinau.

His statement comes in the context where EU leaders are preparing for potential discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin, against the backdrop of growing frustration in European capitals over negotiations led by American President Donald Trump to end the war in Ukraine, notes cotidianul.md.

“A few months ago, we proposed a list of things that we would like to see from Russia, because we also have some requests if Moscow wants the sanctions lifted. Regarding Moldova, we will forward the request to withdraw Russian troops from the Transnistrian region,” declared the head of European diplomacy.

The visit of the Vice-President of the European Commission to Chisinau takes place on the eve of Europe Day, noted President Maia Sandu. The head of state emphasized that Moldova’s accession to the European Union would constitute an act of strategic coherence for the entire Union.
