Andrius Kubilius, the EU Commissioner for Defense, has called on European capitals to finalize proposals for Projects of Common Interest (PCI) by the end of this month and to prioritize the Eastern Flank Watch initiative.
“In June, we need to reach a common agreement on the EDPCIs. Among these, the drone defense initiative, or Eastern Flank Watch, is a priority,” the official announced.
The Eastern Flank Watch project, originating from the idea of an “antidrone wall”, initially proposed in September last year by the President of the Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, aims to protect the countries closest to Russia from aerial incursions, writes deschide.md.
The repeated violation of the airspace of several states by drones, said to be intentionally deviated by Russia, has made this issue a priority for Eastern countries, including the Baltic states and Romania.
