Russia has included the former British Defense Minister, Ben Wallace, on the list of wanted persons, in connection with a criminal investigation that it has not disclosed, announced state media on Wednesday, citing the database of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Moscow, according to Reuters.
Wallace held the position of Minister of Defense of the United Kingdom prior to Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and until August 2023, from which point he continued to advocate for the intensification of military support given to Kiev and condemned Russian aggression.
State press reports did not provide additional details regarding the case against him.
Commenting on this measure, Wallace stated: “I’m not surprised by this latest maneuver of Russia, at a time when the Kremlin is failing both domestically and internationally.”
“The whole world knows that Russia illegally invaded Ukraine four years ago,” he stated in an email, accusing the Kremlin of “sending thousands of young Russians to their deaths, all for the sake of (President Vladimir) Putin’s ego.”
