Public transportation fares have been increased in at least 25 regions of Russia, and in another 10, the authorities have reduced the number of routes or changed the schedule, reports the publication “Važnîe Istorii”.

According to the source, the price hikes are caused by the fuel crisis, triggered after Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian refineries. The fuel shortage has led to an increase in diesel and gasoline prices, and the rise in the cost of spare parts has increased the expenses of transport operators.

Official data shows that, in the last year, the average price of an urban transport trip has increased by 12%, and that of interurban bus transport – by 20%. Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, interurban transport has become 81% more expensive, and urban transport by 52%, above the level of inflation accumulated over the same period.

In some regions, the increases are even more pronounced. For example, in Irkutsk, municipal transport fares have risen by 20%, and the journey between Irkutsk and Angarsk, over a distance of about 50 kilometers, has become more expensive by over 30%.
