The head of the British internal intelligence service, MI5, has warned that Iran is intensifying its efforts to target harder-to-reach targets, such as British military objectives, and Russia is escalating its hybrid war against Ukraine’s allies, according to Reuters.

The Director General of MI5, Ken McCallum, delivered the annual speech on Tuesday regarding the various threats facing the United Kingdom.

He drew attention to the fact that threats from state actors have quadrupled in the last decade, noting that his institution allocates more resources to this issue than during the Cold War period.

On Monday, British Prime Minister Andy Burnham stated that Tehran is “very likely” behind an alleged plot against RAF Fairford, an airbase used by American bombers to carry out strikes on Iran. The incident triggered a security alert and caused President Donald Trump to withdraw the planes from there.

Tehran has rejected the accusations, as well as those regarding other hostile activities in the UK, where authorities have for many years accused Iran of being involved in plots and assassination attempts against dissidents and Israeli and Jewish targets.
