Russia has lost one of its main tools of influence in Gagauzia – “the ability to control elections and set the rules.” The observation is made by the Director of the Information and Security Service of the Republic of Moldova, Alexandru Musteață.

Participating in the Moldova Security Forum, the official spoke about the flow of funding through cryptocurrencies and the challenge this phenomenon represents ahead of the November 15th scrutiny, writes newsmaker.md. However, according to him, this is not the only element that needs to be considered.

“Russia has lost one of its main tools for influencing the situation in Gagauzia – the ability to control elections and set the rules. The Constitutional Court has decided that national legislation applies and the CEC organizes elections in accordance with national legislation. Therefore, national standards, rules, and laws also apply in the context of elections in Gagauzia. The process continues. I’ll stop here“, declared Musteață.

On November 15, the residents of Gagauzia will elect both the future bashkan, as well as the new composition of the People’s Assembly. The electoral campaign will begin on October 16, simultaneously for all registered candidates.
