Yulia Tymoshenko, the former Prime Minister of Ukraine, has been released from jail on a bail of 33 million hryvnias. The ex-official is suspected of having bribed deputies from the Supreme Rada.
According to Ukrainian press, the politician cannot leave the Kiev region without the investigators’ permission. Tymoshenko was required to wear an electronic bracelet and surrender her foreign passport.
On January 13, anti-corruption officers in Ukraine announced that the leader of a faction had been detained, suspected of offering certain benefits to deputies in exchange for votes on certain legislative projects. Prosecutors have determined that one of the parliamentarians would have received $10,000 monthly for votes in the Supreme Rada.
Tymoshenko pleads not guilty. If the court proves the incriminated acts, the former Prime Minister risks up to 10 years in prison.
