NATO member states reaffirmed their strong commitment to collective defense on Wednesday. Officials highlighted in the final statement of the meeting that they will make investments and acquisitions in the defense sector, worth 50 billion dollars.
Member states have assumed increased responsibility for defense at the summit, Agerpres reports. Also, the member states reiterated their support for Ukraine, reports Agerpres.
NATO has promised that in 2026 it will grant Kiev military assistance worth 70 billion euros. Next year, the support is expected to be at least at an equivalent level.
NATO leaders met in Ankara from July 7-8. Discussions between Donald Trump and Vladimir Zelenski are anticipated, after which the American leader is expected to talk with Vladimir Putin.
