Ukraine has officially notified the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) that Russia’s airspace is not safe for civil aircraft. Kiev claims that the reason is increased military activity, according to the head of Ukrainian diplomacy, Andrei Sîbiha.
“We want to avoid unwanted incidents. The war is coming back home. In Russia. Ukraine is exercising its right to self-defense, in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter,” the diplomat conveyed on social networks.
On Wednesday, Russian Minister of Transport Andrei Nikitin stated that “Moscow will not allow Ukraine” to seriously disrupt civil aviation operations, despite threats from Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenski, reports hotnews.ro.
After Kiev announced that it would resort to measures that could “close” the sky to Russian civil aircraft, the Pegasus company has canceled several flights from Turkey to Moscow, according to Meduza.
