The invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin to the G20 summit, which will take place in December in the USA, in Miami, could encourage Russia to continue its aggression against Ukraine, claimed Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk on Thursday, according to Reuters.

The US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, announced this invitation publicly on Wednesday, after a meeting with the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.

The head of American diplomacy expressed his hope that the Russian president will accept the invitation, especially as this would be an opportunity to meet with the American president Donald Trump and other leaders.

“To solve problems, you have to meet with people you disagree with or might have differences with. For this reason, I invited President Putin to the G20,” explained Rubio.

However, the Polish liberal prime minister, Donald Tusk, declares himself against Putin’s participation at the G20 summit, even though Poland is not part of this group, in which Russia is among the members. ‘If inviting Putin to the G20 (summit) could bring us closer to a just peace, I would be absolutely in favor,’ Tusk said at a press conference.

“However – and this is both my concern and what experience tells me -, at the current stage Russia could see this as an encouragement to continue its aggressive policies. This is what I fear,” Tusk explained.

The Kremlin announced on Thursday that it will review the invitation extended by Donald Trump to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to participate in the G20 summit.
