The leader of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (KPRF), Gennadi Ziuganov, proposed, during the party’s electoral congress, the confiscation of citizens’ and businesses’ funds deposited in banks, in order to solve budgetary and economic problems.
“In banks today there are 67 trillion of your money. 67 trillion and 63 trillion from businesses. In total, 130 trillion. This represents three state budgets. They sit there and enrich the bankers,” Ziuganov is quoted by the publications “Vedomosti” and RTVI.
According to the leader of the communists, about 30 trillion rubles can be “found immediately”.
“They are not invested in production, nor in anything else — not even in victory. This problem can be solved quickly and without issues. And I, if I were in the president’s place, would solve it with a single decree; in wartime, he has this right, being the supreme commander”, added Ziuganov.
The Chairman of the Financial Market Committee in the State Duma, Anatoli Aksakov, has described Ziuganov’s statements as a “provocation” which, according to him, was launched from Ukraine or the West.
“It is extremely irresponsible to make such statements without reason. <…> Someone is intentionally using Ziuganov,” the parliamentarian declared for RTVI. According to Aksakov, “it simply makes no sense” to confiscate the deposits of the Russians.
“The money in deposits and so forth represents a resource for lending to the economy and for carrying out financial operations. And if these are frozen or confiscated, it means depriving the economy of money, something that no one is interested in — neither the government nor the business environment. Therefore, it is nonsense,” added Aksakov.
