The former head of Ukraine’s military intelligence service, Kirilo Budanov, now the head of the presidential administration, could become one of the key figures in the negotiation and resolution process of the Russo-Ukrainian war, several American analysts believe.
The statements were made during The Bulwark podcast by journalist Michael Weiss and former CIA officer Marc Polymeropoulos, who highlighted the influence Budanov enjoys within Washington’s security circles.
According to Polymeropoulos, the relationships built over the years between the representatives of the intelligence services from Ukraine and the United States have created a level of trust rarely encountered, and this could weigh significantly in any future negotiations regarding the conflict’s future.
In turn, Michael Weiss stated that Budanov is perceived by the American intelligence community as a long-term partner and a respected figure.
“This is a person who has been very close to the Americans. When he comes to Washington as part of a delegation led by Volodimir Zelenski and meets with CIA representatives, he is seen as an old friend“, the journalist stated.
The analyst noted that Budanov’s influence already exceeds the strictly military sphere. In his opinion, the position he currently holds offers him the opportunity to directly participate in shaping strategic decisions regarding Ukraine’s security and potential peace agreements.
