A high-ranking Russian officer was killed on Tuesday in an explosion near Moscow, after unknown individuals detonated an explosive device placed in a car. According to reports in the Russian press and on Telegram channels close to military circles, the officer’s location could have been identified due to a mistake made by his own son.

The victim is unofficially identified as Damir Davîdov, one of the officials of the Russian Ministry of Defense responsible for coordinating missile and artillery troops. The authorities have not yet officially confirmed the identity of the deceased person.

The explosion took place in Balashikha, a suburb located east of Moscow. According to preliminary information, the explosive device would have had a power equivalent to approximately 500 grams of TNT.

Images shared on social networks capture the moment when a BMW X3 is engulfed in flames following the explosion. Witnesses say the vehicle continued to move a few meters before hitting another parked car.

According to some Russian media sources, Davîdov was reportedly pulled from the flaming wreckage, but the doctors could do nothing more to save his life.
