The British government confirmed on Thursday that the Shahed drone, which struck the British Air Force (RAF) base at Akrotiri, Cyprus, on Monday morning, was not launched from Iran. The initial investigation confirms that the drone was Iranian, but it is unknown where it was launched from, reports the EFE agency, according to Agerpres.

A spokesperson for the London government stated that the initial investigation carried out on the recovered components of the drone established that it was indeed an Iranian Shahed drone, but it was not launched from Iran.

The drone hit a hangar at the airfield, not a runway as previously claimed, and caused minimal damage, with no casualties.

In the face of criticism from the conservative opposition, British Labour Prime Minister Keir Starmer reaffirmed on Wednesday that the United Kingdom “will not join the United States and Israel in the war against Iran unless there is a legal basis and planning for the objectives.”
