The Russian ship Ursa Major, which was allegedly transporting two nuclear reactors to North Korea illegally, sank near the coast of Spain following a series of suspicious explosions. Evidence points to a possible act of sabotage, according to an investigation by CNN.

The fate of the Russian ship has been shrouded in mystery since its sinking on December 23, 2024. However, a CNN investigation suggests that this incident could mark a rare and high-stakes intervention by a Western military force, intended to prevent Russia from transferring advanced nuclear technology to its key ally, North Korea.

The ship set off on its mission just two months after Kim Jong Un had sent troops to support Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The recent military activities around the wreckage deepen the enigma. American “nuclear detection” planes have flown over the sunken ship twice in the last year, according to public flight data. Moreover, a week after the shipwreck, a Russian spy ship allegedly visited the site, causing four more controlled explosions, probably to destroy compromising evidence, according to sources familiar with the Spanish investigation of the incident.

The Spanish government provided little information, publishing a statement only on February 23, under pressure from opposition parliamentarians.
