The new president of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia, Valentin Gaidarji, has called for dialogue and reconciliation between Comrat and Chisinau. The APG leader argues that the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia should no longer be used as a political instrument and that he wants to end the confrontations between the central authorities and those in the autonomy.

During a press conference at IPN, Valentin Gaidarji announced that, in the first days of his mandate, he sent letters to the President of the Republic of Moldova, the Speaker of the Parliament, as well as ambassadors of several states and international organizations. According to him, the aim of this initiative is to restart the dialogue and reduce tensions between Comrat and Chișinău.

He reiterated that all disagreements must be resolved exclusively through dialogue. “Let’s leave confrontation in the past. Let’s choose the path of dialogue and cooperation. I am open to any dialogue and I am ready to meet with the President of the Republic of Moldova, with the President of the Parliament, with the representatives of the Government and with all those who wish for the good of this country. The supreme interest is not the interest of a party or a region, but the interest of our citizens,” concluded Valentin Gaidarji.

The APG President stated that, in his opinion, the Gagauz people he represents are tired of sterile confrontations and the artificial use of Gagauz autonomy as a political tool. He mentioned that he comes with a completely new approach, based on openness, sincere dialogue, and concrete solutions. Moreover, he emphasized that, in his view, Gagauzia does not represent a threat to the integrity of the Republic of Moldova. “We no longer accept that the Gagauz are presented as a threat to the unity of the state. On the contrary, we want to be a support for the stability, peace, and development of the Republic of Moldova,” he said.

Valentin Gaidarji stated that he intends to put an end to the “useless political war” between Chișinău and Comrat and declared himself ready for discussions with the country’s leadership. “I came with an outstretched hand and a clear intention to find together viable solutions that respond both to the interests of the inhabitants of the autonomy and to the national interests of the Republic of Moldova,” the official declared.

At the same time, he appealed to the Constitutional Court, which is set to examine aspects regarding the organization of elections in Gagauzia, to postpone the meeting scheduled for July 7, in order to allow for a dialogue between the central authorities and those of the autonomy.
