An unidentified flying object entered the Republic of Moldova on Monday evening, causing an explosion that ignited a fire about three kilometers from the town of Talmaza. Moldovan authorities say the suspicious object was moving in the direction of Cuciurgan-Tiraspol. The Ministry of Defense announced that it has closed the airspace in the Central sector and is monitoring the airspace for safety.
The authorities have further informed that the object disappeared from the monitoring systems at a certain point.
“The National Army’s airspace surveillance systems detected, at 17:37, the intrusion of an aerial object into the airspace of the Republic of Moldova, in the direction of Cuciurgan-Tiraspol. Immediate measures were taken to close the airspace in the Central sector, for a duration of 15 minutes.”
According to preliminary data, the object disappeared from the monitoring systems in the region of the Talmaza locality, Ștefan Vodă district.
At the same time, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations of the MAI reports that, in the outskirts of the Talmaza locality, approximately 3 kilometers from the locality, an explosion was recorded. As a result, the burning of vegetation was reported.
Specialized teams were dispatched to the scene to document the situation and establish the circumstances of the incident.
“The responsible subdivisions within the National Army maintain cooperation with competent institutions and monitor the situation to ensure the security of the airspace and the citizens of the Republic of Moldova,” the Ministry of Defense conveyed.
