The United States is lobbying other countries in the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to support a resolution project that would require Iran to inform the organization about the status of its nuclear facilities bombed last year and this year by Americans and Israelis. Also, according to a drafted resolution, Tehran should also report on the enriched uranium stored there.
The draft resolution text was formulated by the USA and transmitted to the 35 member states of the council, ahead of their quarterly meeting this week, notes Antena3. Its debate risks further complicating peace negotiations in the Middle East.
The previous resolutions of the IAEA Board of Governors against Iran were adopted with a clear majority, this time the proposed text may encounter increased resistance.
Iran halted cooperation with the IAEA after the 12-day war with Israel, in June 2025. At that time, the United States bombed three Iranian uranium enrichment plants, and this year they repeated the attacks.
