Giorgia Meloni criticizes Donald Trump’s decision to sign an agreement with the Russian Federation regarding the export of fuels. The Prime Minister of Italy believes that there are clear risks of granting more legitimacy to Moscow.
The official has described the agreement as a “very risky choice”, which contradicts efforts to force Vladimir Putin to sit down at the negotiating table with Ukraine, writes hotnews.ro.
“The outcome of this decision is uncertain, while the risks are clear. This agreement grants Moscow legitimacy while its bombs continue to fall on Ukrainian cities, generates new revenue for war funding, and implicitly weakens the effectiveness of sanctions,” Meloni conveyed.
Last week, the United States and Russia agreed that Moscow would initially supply over 300,000 tons of diesel to American and global markets. The agreement, criticized by the international community, is expected to be signed in the coming days.
Trump claims that the agreement will lower energy prices in the US, while Zelensky called the agreement “an investment in a war that must end.”
