The Chargé d’Affaires of Romania in Moscow has been summoned to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the authority announced. Liliana Burda is due to present herself to Russian diplomacy on August 27.

The reason for the summons was not announced. According to hotnews.ro, the official is the second person in the hierarchy of Romania’s diplomatic mission in Russia.

The announcement takes place against the backdrop of diplomatic tensions between Moscow and Bucharest, following numerous drone incidents in recent times, reports realitatea.md. The administration in Bucharest has expelled a Russian diplomat and summoned the ambassador from Moscow, Cristian Istrate, for consultations.

Subsequently, the Russian Foreign Ministry issued several threats against Romania. Maria Zakharova claimed that the drone incidents were staged for propaganda purposes and promised a response from the Kremlin.

However, Aleksei Fadeev, Deputy Director of the Communication Department at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that Russia will not recall its ambassador from Romania for consultations.
