A bishop of the Russian Orthodox Church claims that the war in Ukraine has lasted so long because of the “evil spirits” created by the “Russians’ fascination with occultism and abortions”. Bishop Pitirim also argues that it is “God’s will” for the war in Ukraine to continue because the Russians “cannot give up tarot, numerologists, clairvoyants, witches or magicians”, reports The Moscow Times.

According to this bishop of the Russian Orthodox Church, there are data showing that in 2024 the “number of clairvoyants, witches, magicians, tarot readers, numerologists, fortune tellers and all kinds of witches in Russia has tripled”.

He added that the situation worsened again in 2025, as the Russians continued to increase their purchases of “occult items”. “That is, in a country at war, a huge number of people are invoking the help of evil spirits”, Pitirim stated.

According to the bishop, Russian women who have abortions also prevent the end of the war in Ukraine. “I have seen so many attempts to make peace… and all these attempts have failed. And why? Because it is not God’s will for peace to be made in this way. Because of the huge number of witches that have appeared, because of the large number of abortions, especially recently. And, in general, people have started to live very badly”, Pitirim continued.
