The separatist administration in Tiraspol accuses the constitutional administration in Chisinau of starting the war on the Dniester. Maia Sandu points out that in 1992 Russia was the aggressor, and our country defended its dignity and freedom.

The statements were made during the events commemorating the victims of the military actions in 1992. The self-proclaimed leader in Tiraspol, Vadim Krasnoselski, issued a statement saying that officials from Moldova would have started military actions against “the people they called their own”.

“Today we remember the tragic events of March 2, 1992, when the leadership of the Republic of Moldova launched a large-scale armed aggression against the Transnistrian people. Chisinau has kept silent all these years about the crimes committed by the Moldovan armed forces in Transnistria. Nobody was punished. Nobody repented,” Krasnoselski conveyed.

Maia Sandu, in her address to the veterans on the Dniester, appreciated their courage and dedication to the country. The President mentioned, in context, that our freedom is again threatened, and the Ukrainians are defending it on the battlefield.

“You, the veterans, have been and are still today in the front line of defending democracy. We owe you respect and we owe you gratitude. Today, more than three decades after those events, our peace and freedom are again threatened. They are defended, including for us, by Ukrainians on the battlefield. We must call things by their name. In war, the aggressor is the one who attacks.
In 1992, the aggressor was Russia. Today, in Ukraine, the aggressor is Russia. To say that both sides are guilty means to falsify the truth. Moral neutrality in the face of aggression means not only cowardice, but also lying. And solidarity among peoples who have known aggression is a duty. The Republic of Moldova did not covet foreign territories, did not start wars and only defended the ancestral land,” declared Maia Sandu.
