After two failed attempts to appoint a prime minister and political disagreements in Bucharest, following Tuesday’s consultations, Nicușor Dan made a “surprise” decision. The leader from Cotroceni is giving the parties time to negotiate.

According to official sources, President Nicușor Dan allows the factions to reach an agreement or moratorium on strategic projects, which should be supported by all parties, notes Antena 3. According to the publication, PSD would have conveyed, in discussions with the president, that they would agree to a pact in Parliament, as proposed by Ilie Bolojan, but only if the social-democrats are part of the future minority government.

At this moment, there is a slim chance that Nicușor Dan will make a designation before his trip to Poland. The Romanian president is expected to give the parties an additional 24 hours for negotiations.

If the new Government is not sworn in by the end of the parliamentary session, Romania will remain until autumn with an interim cabinet of ministers.
