    The special envoy of the American President Donald Trump in Ukraine has stated that a deal to end the war in Ukraine is “very close” and now depends on resolving two main issues: the future of the Donbas region in Ukraine and the nuclear power plant in Zaporizhia, reports Reuters.

    Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, after eight years of fighting between Russian-backed separatists and Ukrainian troops in Donbas, a region made up of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

    The war in Ukraine is the bloodiest European conflict since World War II and has triggered the biggest confrontation between Russia and the West since the height of the Cold War.

    The US special envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, who is set to resign in January, stated at the Reagan National Defense Forum that efforts to resolve the conflict are in the “last 10 meters”, which, according to him, are always the most difficult.
