A new protest by Ukrainians against Volodymyr Zelensky’s decision to dismiss the Minister of Defense, Mihailo Fedorov, while the head of the army, Oleksandr Syrsky, remains in office, is set to take place on July 20, in Kiev, reports Kyiv Independent.
After the demonstration, the organizers intend to take a three-day break, announced one of the movement’s organizers, Dmitro Koziatinskii.
Koziatinskii stated that the movement has two clear demands for Zelenski – the reinstatement of Fedorov as Minister of Defense and the removal of Oleksandr Sîrski from his position as the military chief of the Ukrainian army.
It is still unclear whether Zelenski is considering reinstating Fedorov, however, the president is contemplating the dismissal of Sîrski.
A person familiar with the discussions says that a decision regarding the dismissal of Sîrski will be made in the coming days.
Major scandal following the dismissal of Fedorov
Fedorov was offered another position, in the field of military technology and for coordinating the modernization of the ministry, however, according to two people familiar with the situation, he is willing to return only as the defense minister.
“For Fedorov, it is important to continue all the projects he has started,” one of the sources stated.
Ukrainians have been protesting daily since July 16 against the removal of Fedorov, one of the youngest and most popular high-ranking officials in the country.
