Deeply buried about 500 meters inside a mountain in central Iran, the Yazd missile base is described by experts more as an underground fortress than a simple bunker.
Constructed in the solid granite of the Shirkuh massif — one of the toughest geological formations — the facility could withstand extreme pressures, surpassing the limits of conventional building materials. This type of protection poses significant obstacles even for American ammunition specifically designed for the destruction of fortified targets, such as the GBU-57 bomb.
Inside, the complex is organized like an extensive network of tunnels, more akin to an “underground city” than a classic military base. According to analyses, the infrastructure includes an automated railway system that connects assembly areas, warehouses, and several hidden exits at various points of the mountain.
Images previously released by the Iranian press suggest that rocket launchers can be quickly moved within these tunnels, brought to the surface for launch, and immediately retracted into shelters protected by armored doors.
