The United Kingdom has sanctioned several entities in Russia, including Telegram channels, over allegations of “manipulation” of information, as well as two Chinese companies accused of cyber-attacks against the United Kingdom, announced British Foreign Minister Yvette Cooper, reports AFP.
The Telegram channel Rybar – close to the Russian army – “uses classic Kremlin manipulation tactics, namely false “investigations” and AI (artificial intelligence) generated content with the aim of directing a version of international events in Russia’s favor”, stated the head of British diplomacy, in a speech she delivered Tuesday, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Locarno Agreements (1925) regarding Germany’s borders, signed by several European countries.
“Rybar, which presents itself as an independent entity, is in fact partially coordinated by the Russian presidential administration” and “collaborates with members of the Russian intelligence services,” Yvette Cooper clarified.
London also announced sanctions against the Pravfond Foundation, which it suspects of financing disinformation and defense projects, suspected of espionage; but also against the think tank “Centre for Geopolitical Expertise” and its founder, the Russian ultra-nationalist philosopher Aleksandr Dugin.
Aleksandr Dugin is the bard of “neo-Eurasianism” – an anti-liberal doctrine according to which Moscow must liberate the world from the drifts of the West by raising an empire from Europe to Asia.
