The United Kingdom plans to increase the military budget to nearly 300 billion pounds sterling (348 billion euros) over the next four years. The aim is to modernize the army in the context of increasing threats, announced the acting Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Tuesday.

“We must do everything necessary to face this new world with determination, to ensure the security of our country and to take advantage of the opportunities arising from investments in our sovereign power”, said the official.

When asked if his potential successor, Andy Burnham, has committed to future investments in the field of defense, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated that he has “no doubt” that any future Labour government will continue to act based on his plan, writes Agerpres.

The NATO Secretary General, Mark Rutte, hailed on Tuesday the UK’s plans to increase its defense spending.
