The United Kingdom will deploy an additional 400 troops in Estonia starting next year, based on a new defense agreement signed with the Baltic country, reports dpa, according to Agerpres. According to statements made by the British Defense Minister, Dan Jarvis, the UK is consolidating its military presence in Estonia to strengthen NATO’s territorial defense and deter potential aggression from Russia.
This decision aims to strengthen the eastern flank of NATO, and the number of British military personnel in Estonia will increase from 800 to 1,200 from April next year.
“We are strengthening our military presence in Estonia to defend NATO territory and to deter Russian aggression”, declared British Defense Minister Dan Jarvis.
The agreement, signed on Thursday in Tallinn by Dan Jarvis and his Estonian counterpart, Hanno Pevkur, stipulates that the British forces in Estonia will be equipped with more vehicles, advanced weapons, and high-tech drones specifically designed to operate in the Baltic country.
Dan Jarvis stated that the agreement “reflects the realities of today’s war and shows how we are modernizing our forces to face the threats we are confronted with”.
