Donald Trump stated on Monday to The New York Post that he has “not the slightest intention” of sending American troops to Iran to protect the nuclear materials in Isfahan, keeping secret how he intends to deal with the country’s new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei.
“I have made no decision in this regard”, Trump said regarding discussions about deploying American troops to the underground uranium enrichment facility in Iran, located near the historic Persian capital, writes the New York Post.
Trump also said that he is “not satisfied” with the fact that Mojtaba Khamenei, 56, replaced his father, Ali Khamenei, as supreme leader, but he did not repeat his previous threat to kill any successor who would take power without his agreement.
“I won’t tell you,” Trump mentioned about his plans for Mojtaba Khamenei. “I won’t tell you. I’m not satisfied with him.”
Trump, who spoke on the phone from Trump National Golf Club in Doral, Florida, ended speculation about the possible sending of ground troops to Isfahan, after telling reporters on board Air Force One on Saturday afternoon that “we did not discuss” this possibility.
However, news agencies such as Semaphore, NBC News, and Axios reported on the same day that the scenario was under discussion.
