The United States imposed sanctions on Monday against VTB Bank Public Joint Stock Company, the second largest bank in Russia, according to the announcement made by the Treasury Department.

Washington claims that the Russian bank is involved in evading sanctions targeting Iran, writes hotnews.ro. The decision extends the sanctions imposed against VTB in 2022, after Russia invaded Ukraine.

“The Treasury will continue to target and disrupt those who provide material, technological, or financial support that enables the Iranian regime to sustain its terrorist activities. The Treasury will not tolerate any kind of support given to the regime and will continue to identify, expose, and isolate entities that facilitate Iran’s actions”, declared the Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent.

The United States has imposed a series of economic measures against Iran. These target oil exports, maritime transport networks, arms purchases, financial intermediaries, digital asset exchange platforms, and air links.
