“Preventive” wars risk plunging the entire world into conflict, warned on Wednesday the Secretary of State of the Vatican, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, when asked about the justification of the attack launched by the USA and Israel against Iran, according to ANSA, Reuters and AFP, quoted by Agerpres.
If states were recognized the right to a “preventive war”, according to their own criteria and without a supranational legal framework, the entire world would risk being engulfed in flames, Parolin declared on Wednesday for Vatican News.
“This erosion of international law is truly worrying: justice has given way to force; the force of law has been replaced by the law of force, with the conviction that peace can only emerge after the enemy has been annihilated,” summarized the cardinal.
“War draws entire nations into spirals of violence, with uncertain outcomes”
According to the Secretary of State of the Vatican, it is a moment of great pain, as the peoples of the Middle East – including its Christian communities – have been “once again thrown into the horror of war, which brutally destroys human lives, brings destruction and draws entire nations into spirals of violence, with uncertain outcomes”.
