The Kremlin stated on Thursday that Russia will welcome all international mediators who can contribute to the political resolution of the conflict in Ukraine, whether it’s American envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, whose visit has not yet been established, or Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, the head of Vatican diplomacy, who will meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow next week, according to EFE and Reuters agencies, quoted by Agerpres.
“We greatly appreciate the efforts of all countries that express a sincere desire to support the conflict resolution process. There are few such countries, but this makes their efforts all the more important and valuable,” said the spokesperson for the Russian presidency, Dmitry Peskov, at his daily press conference.
The US mediators “are busy”
He mentioned that a date has not yet been set for a new visit to Russia by the envoys of the American President Donald Trump, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
“But they are always welcome in Moscow, they are always welcome interlocutors for their Russian counterparts, with whom they maintain contact, and for President Putin,” the Kremlin representative added, but noted that American mediators are currently “occupied with other US foreign policy issues,” referring to the Middle East.
As for the visit that the Vatican’s Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Paul Richard Gallagher, will make to Moscow between August 25 and 28, Peskov said that he does not have any scheduled meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the Vatican official will meet with the head of Russian diplomacy, Sergei Lavrov.
