The White House administration assured on Monday that the USA does not intend to sell arms to China, its most significant geopolitical and military rival, after Donald Trump allegedly mentioned such a possibility in discussions with the Chinese dictator, Xi Jinping, according to the American ambassador in Beijing, David Perdue, reports AFP, quoted by Agerpres.

“The American government has no plans to sell arms to China,” an anonymous American official stated to the cited agency. The clarification comes following the statements of David Perdue, which have sparked numerous comments.

“President Trump continued to say: ‘Well, we sell weapons to other countries in the world.’ He asked President Xi if he would like to buy at some point,” the American ambassador to China told Fox News. The diplomat did not specify whether the American president had this conversation with the Chinese dictator when he received him with great pomp last week in Washington.

“The American legislation prohibits the sale of weapons to China and there is no offer or plan for such a sale,” stated an official from the State Department in a statement given to The New York Times.
