French President Emmanuel Macron warned in a phone call attended by several European leaders on Monday that the US could “betray” Ukraine on the issue of ceding territories that the Russian army has not occupied on the front, according to revelations made by the publication Der Spiegel.
During the talks, Emmanuel Macron directly addressed a concern of Europeans and Ukraine in the context of discussions about peace negotiations. “There is a possibility that the US could betray Ukraine on the issue of territory, without clarity regarding security guarantees,” Macron said, according to the cited source. He added that there is a “great danger” for Zelenski.
At the same time, European leaders also addressed another main issue: so far, Europeans are not at the negotiation table. “At this moment, we are outside,” the Finnish President Stubb is said to have remarked. “But we need to get in.” However, Witkoff did not travel to Brussels.
