“Cohabitation of couples without marrying is a threat to national security,” stated at a forum the Russian Deputy Minister of Justice, Vadim Balanin, quoted on Wednesday by the daily Kommersant, taken over by the EFE agency, cited by Agerpres.
“We are currently facing the phenomenon of cohabitation without registered marriage. (…) These trends, in our opinion, can be considered a direct threat to national security and the demographic health of our country,” the Russian official pointed out.
Another issue he drew attention to is the significant number of divorces in Russia, a country facing a sharp decline in population since the dissolution of the Soviet Union, a decrease that has intensified since the start of the war in Ukraine in 2022.
