The Russian Chargé d’Affaires in Brussels has been summoned. The measure was taken as a result of the violation of Romania’s airspace by Russian drones in recent days.
Romania shares a border of approximately 600 kilometers with Ukraine, which has been repelling a Russian invasion for over four years, reports hotnews.ro. In the opinion of the representatives of the European Commission, the incidents represent a “reckless act” and a “serious escalation”, “threatening the security of EU citizens, regional stability, and international peace”.
In this context, the head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, proposed for approval additional sanctions against Russia.
In recent days, the authorities in Romania have denounced the repeated violations of Romanian airspace by the Russian Federation. Between July 24-26, 2026, the Romanian Army shot down three drones that had unauthorizedly entered national territory.
