The constitutional authorities in Chisinau do not have data to confirm the number of residents in the Transnistrian region who have applied for Russian Federation citizenship under a simplified regime. The statement was made by the Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, Valeriu Chiveri

The official questioned the figures announced by Tiraspol and the Russian Federation Embassy, reports newsmaker.md. In his opinion, the figures could be fabricated.

“We do not have the real figures. Considering the creativity applied in Tiraspol, we can infer that even more could be drawn. I’m actually surprised there are only 36 thousand. It’s a propaganda action, meant to counterbalance the active promotion of the desire for the reintegration of the Republic of Moldova,” said Chiveri.

On May 25, Russia began registering Transnistrians who want to obtain simplified citizenship. A day later, the separatist authorities announced that over 20,000 people had applied, and a week later they are talking about approximately 36,000 applicants.
