The decline of the Russian civil economy sector and the attacks on the most popular Chinese models have led to a drastic reduction in truck imports. In September, only 643 new trucks with a total weight of over 3.5 tons were delivered in Russia, stated the general director of Avtostat, Sergei Tselikov. He emphasized that this figure is 20 times smaller than in September of the previous year, when 12,600 units were imported.
Imports have been declining since the beginning of the year. In the first three quarters of 2025, according to Avtostat, they have decreased by 92%, that is 12 times – reaching less than 5,000 vehicles, compared to 61,000 in the same period in 2024. “Imports of MCV and HCV (medium and heavy trucks) have almost disappeared this year,” Tselikov noted.
The main identified causes are: the collapse of the auto market (-55%), huge stocks of goods, and the suspension of type-approval certificates (ОТТС) for certain Chinese models – the document that certifies the technical conformity of the vehicle and is mandatory for sale.
The decline in truck sales began in November of last year. At the end of 2024, the heavy truck (HCV) market fell by 18%, reaching 111,000 units, but experts say that now such figures seem like a dream.
