The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has extended for one year the sanctions imposed on Russia in connection with the annexation of Crimea, the war in Donbas, and the large-scale invasion in Ukraine. The notification was published in the Federal Register of the USA, the official collection of government documents, reports the Russian agency TASS.
According to the document, the restrictive measures will remain in force even after March 6, 2026. The extension targets the sanctions introduced by the administration of Joe Biden in February 2022, by the Trump administration in September 2018, as well as by the administration of Barack Obama in March and December 2014.
In the notification, Trump explained that “the actions and policies referred to by these executive orders continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy interests of the United States”. “I am extending the emergency [sanction] regime for another year,” declared the American president.
