The American President Donald Trump has invited his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to the G20 summit, which will be hosted by the USA in Miami in December, while Washington is making efforts to convince Russia and Ukraine to end the war, announced on Wednesday the American Secretary of State Marco Rubio, after a meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly with the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, reports AFP, quoted by Agerpres.
“To solve problems, you need to meet with people you disagree with or with whom you might have differences. For this reason, I invited President Putin to the G20“, Rubio told the press.
“We believe that this is an opportunity for him to not only discuss with the president (Trump), but also with other world leaders“, added the head of American diplomacy, expressing his hope that the Kremlin leader will accept the invitation.
On the other hand, Rubio urged Moscow and Kiev to agree on an energy armistice and emphasized that Washington is making efforts to achieve this goal. Such an armistice, he explained, would not end the war in Ukraine, but could serve as a “platform” for a broader agreement.
“The two sides have expressed interest in a limited truce that involves energy. Of course, it’s not easy, but both parties have said they are interested“, mentioned the US Secretary of State.
