Donald Trump firmly rejected the possibility of Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the slain leader, taking over the supreme leadership of the Islamic Republic.
“Khamenei’s son is unacceptable to me. We want someone who will bring harmony and peace to Iran,” the American president declared, emphasizing that Washington must be involved in the succession process “just as it happened in Venezuela.”
“I need to be involved in the appointment, just as it was with Delcy (Rodriguez) in Venezuela,” he insisted, making a direct reference to the situation in Caracas, where Vice President Delcy Rodriguez temporarily took over the role of Nicolas Maduro after he was captured earlier this year in an operation led by an American commando.
