The United States withdrew on Tuesday the general license authorizing the sale of Iranian oil, while an American official warned that Iran’s actions in the Strait of Hormuz are “completely unacceptable” and will have consequences, following attacks on oil tankers in this strategic area, reports Reuters.

Oil prices have risen by over 5% following the announcement. The US Treasury Department has stated that it will allow, until July 17, the completion of Iranian oil transactions that had been authorized under the revoked license.

The American official said that negotiators continue to work “in good faith” for a final agreement with Iran, despite the most recent escalation.

The measure taken by the USA comes after three oil tankers reported in recent days that they were hit by unidentified projectiles in the Strait of Hormuz or near it, according to a report by the UKMTO agency, affiliated with the British navy. The regime in Tehran has not commented on the information and no one has claimed responsibility.
